BMI officially began in 1962 to serve the national and international evangelistic ministry of David while he pastored The Chapel in Akron, Ohio. As he met and counseled with pastors internationally, he recognized the need of these pastors for additional training. The Lord planted a growing desire in his heart to serve these pastors who often had no opportunity for training and few materials for use in their ministries.

The BMI Training Conferences began in 1989, and David led a team of pastors who taught practical, biblical lessons that included topics from how to conduct baptisms and weddings to sermon preparation and the pastor’s personal life. During this time, Jonathan Burnham came alongside his father and shaped the vision to its present form. Currently, there are ten translated manuals, fifty lessons in the curriculum, twenty-three DVD lessons, and an entirely new level of training for key pastors and leaders, which began in the spring of 2012. BMI has added several more facets to the ministry, which can be viewed throughout the website.
